Gameaddik: New Xbox And PlayStation Consoles Won’t Be Coming Anytime Soon, According to Ubisoft

If you were thinking about holding off on buying the new Xbox One X to wait for the newest console, then you might be waiting for a while.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated in an investor call that console manufacturers are determined to get the most out of the current generation of consoles for as long as possible. In the call Guillemot said:

“As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft [launched] Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming.”

If this is true, then there are some pros and cons to waiting for another new Xbox or PlayStation console. On the positive, the Xbox One X hasn’t even been out for a whole week and is already receiving great reviews. The 4K capabilities are the main takeaway from the console, and Ubisoft is getting lots of praise for how amazing Assassin’s Creed Origins looks on the Xbox One X. The company also has a lot to look forward to their upcoming games Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2 that are sure to look beautiful on the Xbox One X.

The downside of waiting at least two years for a new console would be that new games would have to be downgraded to work on both the Xbox One X and the Xbox One. The problem stems from the fact that there are currently no exclusives for the Xbox One X, so the games would have to be able to run on both consoles.

As for any plans for a PS5 coming out, there are none yet. The PS4 is the latest console released by Sony, and the company hasn’t released any info regarding a new console. Maybe both the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro will see some huge exclusives released way before 2019, but until that happens we’ll just have to wait and see.
