If you’re a PlayStation fan who loves racking up trophies in your games, you’ll be pleased to hear you can now put these achievements to use.
Sony has created a new feature called Sony Rewards which will allow PlayStation owners in the U.S. to apply their trophies as credit towards purchasing new games from the PlayStation store.
Here’s a quick rundown on what trophies are worth:
- 100 Silver trophies – 100 points
- 25 Gold trophies – 250 points
- 10 Platinum trophies – 1,000 points
There are a couple of things PlayStation owners need to know prior to earning more trophies. First, you need to sign up for the Sony Rewards program and link your PlayStation Network account linked to it before you can apply trophies as credit. Unfortunately, this means any trophies you’ve earned prior to the Sony Rewards program are not eligible to be used for any discounts on games.
Another thing to know is that players will have to grind a lot for trophies, since not many points are offered in exchange for your achievements. 1,000 points is equal to $10 of credit. PlayStation owners know that to get a Platinum trophy in a game means to get all the trophies available in the game. It’s going to be tough if you’re trying to get a game free of charge by using only your trophies as credit.
While some people might be excited with this new feature, others fear the types of trophies will change to make getting these discounts more difficult for gamers. We can’t say whether the requirements for getting trophies will become more difficult, but using trophies as credit will change the PlayStation community.
