Good News, Xbox Fans: Microsoft Shifts Focus to Developing In-House Video Games

The Xbox One X is the latest hardware to be released by Microsoft, but the company is now shifting its efforts to more software and game development.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said the company will begin working on developing in-house video games, an area that Xbox has been slacking in recently. It seems Xbox has been listening to the complaints from the gaming community of the Xbox One not having enough exclusive games.

Phil Spencer addressed this issue stating: “We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that.”

He continued:

“Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven’t always invested at the same level. We’ve gone through ups and downs in the investment.”

The company has said they’ll create game studios along with acquiring existing studios to achieve this goal.

Still don’t have an Xbox One X?

This is refreshing news for Xbox fans who feel the Xbox is getting beat out by the PS4 with its many exclusive titles. Xbox saw huge success with its own exclusive games like the Halo and Gears of War series, and the company seems to want to repeat that success.

Spencer also teased that game streaming could be coming soon to Xbox gamers. “Now, players are playing the games on every device and we’re connecting those players across all of those devices.” Spencer continues, “Obviously for us, the console is an important part there… but connecting to gamers wherever they are is the vision of Microsoft around what we’re doing in gaming.”

We’ve seen a demonstration of Xbox game streaming back in 2013 when the company streamed Halo 4 across multiple Windows devices. If this feature was brought to the Xbox One X it would be a huge selling point for Microsoft, and could possibly be even more of a match to their top competitor, Sony.
