13 Of The Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2018

13 Of The Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Of 2018

The Nintendo Switch has seen a plethora of great games come out on the console since its slightly rocky launch. This influx of amazing titles has helped it to become one of, if not the most popular and sought-after consoles of 2018. However, there is still a whole host of outstanding games set to come to the console in the near future, including an array of classics being re-released, sequels to awesome franchises and brand new IPs as well.

So, let’s take a look at 13 of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch games that are coming out in 2018!

13. South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Starting off this list is one of the more outrageous yet hilarious games set to come out on the Nintendo Switch; South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Whilst it may not have received quite as high reviews as its predecessor, it certainly captures everything we have to come to know and love about the South Park franchise. With crude humour, dirty jokes and an absolutely insane plot, this truly is one of the best South Park games to have been released.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is set to release on April 24th, finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch. This makes it one of the most anticipated games for the console this year, as we all eagerly wait to play through the game on the go.

12. Mario Tennis Aces

The original Mario Tennis game was released almost 18 years ago, back on the Nintendo 64. Since then, the series has gone from strength to strength with each release, always offering a fun yet competitive game to play with your family and friends. With the advent of the Nintendo Switch’s portability, as well as the motion controls, you can be sure that the latest addition to the franchise will have you working up a sweat whilst still having fun.

In fact, you’ll even be able to use “Zone Shot”, an ability that pauses the game and lets you aim where the ball will go. This, as well as all of the characters on the roster, will give Mario Tennis Aces a leg up on the other sports games, making it a Nintendo Switch game you don’t want to miss.

11. Terraria

Having become a huge success on the PC through Steam, Terraria is the definition of a 2D sandbox game. Whilst the game itself focused on building and exploration, with some combat thrown into the sweeten the deal, you are largely able to play as you want. With obvious inspiration coming from the likes of Metroid and Minecraft, Terraria is a beautiful mix of gameplay styles that comes together perfectly.

Originally slated to release on the Nintendo Switch in 2017, the developers pushed the release date back, leading to concern about the game’s future on the console. However, as we make our way through 2018, we remain hopeful and excited that it will finally drop. Therefore, it is definitely one of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch games of 2018.

10. Dark Souls: Remastered

By now, everyone knows that the popularity of extremely challenging games has sky rocketed in recent years. Part of this is most certainly due to the excellent Dark Souls series that started off with Demon’s Souls. Since then, after transforming into Dark Souls, the franchise has become a favourite for those who love to try and beat the most difficult games, or just enjoy losing over and over again.

Well, you can now experience the joy of the game over screen on the Nintendo Switch, with Dark Souls: Remastered, set to release on the 25th of May this year. With updated visuals, you’ll get to see all of the glory that is Dark Souls in improved HD, everywhere you go. Get ready to scream on the bus as you die once again!

9. Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze

Having been released on the Wii U in February 2014, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is a 3D side-scrolling platformer and the direct sequel to Donkey Kong Returns. It featured both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, along with a few new faces to add to the roster. Capturing the magic of the older games, Tropical Freeze features everything you’d expect from a platformer, including puzzle piece collectables and a Time Attack mode – this even has an online scoreboard as well.

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is amongst the number of Wii U classics that are being remade for the Nintendo Switch, coming out this year. This means that you’ll be able to bash your way through the levels whilst on the train to work, with friends or just about anywhere!

8. Hollow Knight

The popularity of Metroidvania games has been going strong for years, with both AAA and indie game developers using the design concept to brilliant (and sometimes not so brilliant) effect. Hollow Knight is one of the games that manages to pull it off superbly. The sprawling, interconnected game world allows for hours of exploration, whilst the combat is easy to pick up but definitely offers a challenge, even to seasoned gamers.

With additional aspects such as having to find your body and defeat your “Shade” in order to hold the full amount of currency and “SOUL” after you die adds a huge amount of tactical thought to the game as well. Hollow Knight was a huge success on PC and is definitely one of the most anticipated releases for the Nintendo Switch, set to come out Q2 2018.

7. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

The latest in the long-running Wolfenstein series has already seen huge success, with intense action, a huge plot and amazing graphics. Now, it is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch, along with all of the insane gun fights and mecha. This means that we’ll be able to dive right into the thick of it whilst on the go.

So get ready for the fight of your life, no matter where you are, as Wolfenstein 2 makes it way to Nintendo’s latest console. With everything from Uzis to flamethrowers at your disposal, the sheer amount of over the top action easily makes Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus one of the most anticipated releases for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

6. Indivisible

J-RPGs, or Japanese Role Playing Games, have seen a huge upturn in popular recently, after a few years out of the limelight. With that, we have seen an influx of new games in the genre, including the beautiful Indivisible. With inspiration from the likes of Valkyrie Profile for the combat, and absolutely stunning side-scrolling platformer style gameplay, Indivisible looks set to be an awesome addition to the RPG genre as a whole.

On top of that, the soundtrack is being made by the composer behind Secret of Mana. Indivisible has some real heritage going into it, so you know it is going to be a hit. There’s a huge cast of characters to recruit, and even a Collector’s Edition for those of you wanting some extras, including a full-colour art manual! Indivisible has no definite release date, beyond “2018”, but we are hoping it will be sooner rather than later.

5. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Hyrule Warriors was originally released on the Wii U, as well as the 3DS. Unlike other Legend of Zelda games, Hyrule Warriors was very much a Dynasty Warriors game, with hordes of enemies to slice your way through and massive maps to conquer. Added to that was a great array of characters from the Legend of Zelda series as well.

There are a lot of Dynasty Warriors crossover games, but Hyrule Warriors just worked so well. So to have the Definitive Edition coming out on the Nintendo Switch is awesome. We cannot wait to get our hands on it! You will even get to use costumes from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which only stands to make Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition even better.

4. Yoshi

One thing that we cannot wait to do on the Nintendo Switch is to take control of Mario’s partner in crime once again. Yoshi has become one of the biggest mascots of Nintendo, beaten only by Mario and Donkey Kong themselves. So it is awesome to know that a brand new game featuring him as the main character is coming to the Switch.

The cartoon style graphics and cardboard world make for a unique and awesome looking platformer game. All of the Yoshi games have been awesome in their own way, so we have high expectations for his first game on the Nintendo Switch.

3. Bayonetta 3

Having started on the Wii U, the Bayonetta series to the world by storm with its break-neck speed in combat and beautifully over the top animation and attacks. Developed by Platinum Games, who have a pedigree when it comes to action games, everyone knew the series was something special. Now, the next game in the series is coming to the Nintendo Switch and we couldn’t be more excited.

Whilst we are still waiting for a release date, the fact that the previous games have been re-released on the console gives us hope that Bayonetta 3 won’t be far behind! So it is time to get your guns ready, don your magical hair and prepare to take on one of the biggest and baddest action games of, hopefully, this year!

2. Shin Megami Tensei Brand New Title

The Shin Megami Tensei series has been going on for decades, spanning multiple consoles and generations, as well as giving birth to the much-beloved Persona series as well. The dark undertones of the storylines, mixed with humour and awesome character (and demon) designs have given the series a cult following, to say the least.

Now, following the previous two games in the series coming out on the 3DS, Shin Megami Tensei Brand New Title is heading for the Nintendo Switch. Whilst no release date has been formally announced yet, hopes are high that we’ll get an announcement soon. Here’s hoping the next game is this outstanding series will hit the shelves in 2018.

1. Metroid Prime 4

When Nintendo announced that a fourth Metroid Prime game was coming to the Switch, the reveal was simple yet effective. All they needed to show us was the number 4 in the Metroid Prime font, with no gameplay footage or CGI trailer. That was enough to set everyone off and build the hype immediately. Why?

Because out of all of the 3D Metroid games, the Prime series is one of the best. The first game is widely considered one of the best entries in the Metroid franchise as a whole, as well. So, with a brand new game in the series on the horizon, excitement is hard to avoid. We really hope that there will be some concrete news about a release date soon, but until then, the hype will just keep growing.
