The Paladins: Champions of the Realm beta is now free to download and play for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners.
Developed by Hi-Rez Studios, Paladins is a team-based shooter featuring 24 playable characters (Champions in the game). Each Champion can be customised to suit the player’s attacking or defensive preferences, and cosmetic upgrades are available also. The beta will give players access to four different game modes. You can watch a cinematic trailer for the game below.
It may come as no surprise that the game has been extensively compared to Overwatch, with many criticising the developer for what they see as an obvious clone. Some Champions are even reminiscent of Overwatch’s Heroes, however Paladins does feature the ability to change a character’s abilities, something that Blizzard doesn’t allow in its game.
Despite the controversy Hi-Rez still believed that Paladins was the “most-played new Steam game of 2016”, where it still remains in Early Access. It’s currently in the top 15 played games on the platform.
