80 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V have now been sold, publisher Take-Two announced in its end of year report.
According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, 5 million of those were sold since February of this year. GTA V released in 2013.
Since it first launched GTA V has been an unstoppable force, becoming the best-selling game of the previous generation and one of the top-selling games of all time. Even as recently as this year it was outselling new releases like Nioh on a regular basis.
Physical sales made up 75 percent of the total sales and digital 25 percent. Digital sales are on the rise, and it’s widely considered that downloads will overtake physical copies of games in the near future. These figures say otherwise, though.
Aside from Rockstar’s behemoth, 5 million units of 2K’s Mafia III have now been shipped to retailers and Civilisation VI nearly 2 million, putting the latter series as a whole up to nearly 40 million units sold. NBA 2k17 has shipped nearly 8 million, making it one of Take-Two’s best-selling sports games of all time.
